Merry Christmas From The San Joaquin Valley

This may take a bit of CSI'ing: There's an English Sparrow in there...

Our father's large cactus plants bear abuntdantly. My sister and I shared one of these while we were in Sicily: Fichidini (prickly pear)...

Shadows lengthen near the setting of the sun...

A member of the thistle family...

This variety is the Fuyu. Sliced and dried in the Ronco Food Dehydrator, they are unbelievable...

Merry Christmas to all!

Oh, CLAIRE: Yes. Those are persimmons, I swear. Merry Christmas, my friend. I love winter in The Big Valley.

CHEESY: You do? Cool, Cheesy. These are the variety you can eat when they are firm as apples. I brought dozens back with me and am drying some as I type.

CHEESY: Ha! I missed that. Didn't even catch it until I went to the second comment. Funny, huh? Permissons. Works for me.

BWOOKIE: Merry, MERRY KWISSMAS, dear Bwookie. I am going through a VERY slow internet period due to the rules of satellite providers. They shut you down after you use a certain amount of bandwidth and I always get shut down due to downloading music and cool pix. So, here I sit in dial-up land until they turn me back on to full speed.

KAT: And to you as well, dear Kat----Merriness even after the Event. Happiness to you in the year to come is my prayer for you. Xs and Os, G

BLUE: Feasted and pictured all over the place, Dahlin'. And an H.N.Y. 2 U 2! Can you still buy those food dehydrators, you axe. Let me put it this way: Mine still has the masking tape price tag that says $4 on it. I will never remove it. Anything I purchase second-hand (including my guitars) have the price tags still affixed. History, I tell ya. Xs and Os, G

PAM ARIES: And a big Hooty New Year to you, too!!!!

SOMEWHERE JOE: Yes, well, sort of behind. More like framed. But you're in the frame.

Trail mix? In a dehydrator? Doesn't it already come that way?

Now when you pick a pawpaw
Or a prickly pear
And you prick a raw paw
Next time beware
Don't pick the prickly pear by the paw
When you pick a pear
Try to use the claw
But you don't need to use the claw
When you pick a pear of the big pawpaw
Have I given you a clue ?

Happy New Year!

QUILLY: I couldn't have said it better. Hugs and good wishes.

BAZZY AND WIFEY: Happy New Year, Bazza. No, not a rarity at all. Just hard to find in this picture. But worth it, of course, because it is after all, English. I'm told they are not really sparrows, but finches. Could this be true?

BWOOKIE: Then I shall tempt you all the more, knowing that you will finally be home. Yay!!!

LOGO: That darned lake! Cell phone call coverage fiend that it is! Puh-TOOEY!

CANDACIA: OH, so you are not a stranger to the ways of the persimmon. Good. I think that next year I shall put together persimmon packages for my blogger friends who indicate an interest.

CHEENDRUH!: That's a Louis Prima lyric? Wow. I dint gno that one. Very Sicilian, though. Happy New Year!

CHEENDRUH!: Oh, I get it. Yeah, the Jungle Book. Now I get it. Now I need to get it, that is.

NESSY: Gawpie loves his Nessie. Happy New Year, beloved Nessie!

CANDACIA: You did? Cool! I wonder if there are towns called Ma Ma.

ANNIE FROM TURLOCK: But alas, I did not go anywhere except out on Blaker Road to see my dairyman friend's new house. Beautiful. Milk been berry berry good to heem.

You found the sparrow!!!! You are the first to having made the claim outright. Good for you!

DIESEL: I got me some good shots of that water tower. Happy New Year, friend Diesel.

PAM ARIES: Hooty Hoo!!!! I just got off the phone to Limers and she said that they had a whole 10 degrees out east this morning. TEN. Count 'em. You are twice as warm. lol

HEY! Happy 2008! I am back in Moscow and having a tough time getting back in the groove....I just don't want to read any more boring, dead books. You would die if you would have sat in my first day of crim law class last week- proff basically says you would be better off jumping off a bridge than working in the crim justice system, yada yada. Why do people get so hung up by all the BAD that they see with out even stopping to think what amazing resiliancy and humanity that you witness in the same system? Whatev. Should be a fun class for me. take care and keep me posted on things...ps...looks like studying law in Rome this summer might REALLY happen!!!!!!!!

SNAVY: Putting lights on a persimmon is sheer drudgery. You are SO right.

MINDANCE: Yes. You can resize on the camera and it makes another file while retaining the original. Or you can resize in the photo program. I like 'em big. Size does matter.

KATIE: It's never too late to say Happy New Year to you, too Katie!

CHEENDRUH!: You bore easily. Like an apple by a worm. I am blog-lazy these days. More to come, I promise.

ANISSA: Your picturer time will come. Oh yes, it will come. Hello back! Happy 2thousand and eight.

CANDACIA: Doing that work thing and with a vengeance. Puff, puff, puff....

KATIE!: Sooo good to see you here. I love that you would peek. Law school sucks. I went through three years of it myself, but suffering at the hand of my father's attendance. I remember crim law and especially, torts. We heard about torts every gol dang night. I do so hope you get to Rome through some of your studies. That would be awesome. Keep us posted. Love your way, Dearheart.

BLUE TSG: Here's a wiggle of all ten toes your way, Bleu. Can't quite muster the pinky to the keyboard yet, though. Sorrowful self says so. Left eye winking, not just blinking. Mwah. xo, G

CANDACIA: Very funny! CLEAR!!!

CANDACIA: Just don't forget the compressions between the blows.

Oh, CLAIRE: I love my naggers. They prod. They poke. They more than gently nudge. And I see you have the compressions covered. Lovin' THAT. xo
