YAO COME BACK NAO, Y'HEAR?

Since, by U.S. standards, I am considered short, and wrestled in high school, I have always hated basketball. I'll never forget the time my dad took us to see the Harlem Globetrotters play a "real" team. Yes, I did get to see Meadowlark Lemon. That was back in the Salt Lake City days, so I don't remember where they played. Salt Palace? Dunno. Anyways (as they say here in I-dropped-out-in-the-ninth-grade-to-fish-or-log land), I got to meet one of the players. Out on the floor, they didn't look so big. But standing face to knee with the tallest person I had ever seen in my life was nothing....short....of amazing. When he reached down to shake my 12 year old hand, I grabbed all I could and made the best of it.

Last Wednesday I attended that Blazers/Rockets game. It's different when it's in person. I liked it a lot. I got to see a young man 7 foot 6 inches tall trying to run without tripping. He did a lot of both. Not even a week later and he has gone and broken one of his knees.

Merry Christmas, everyone!!!

(Oh, and by the way---that guy in the red who is standing near the back of the free throw circle IS one Mr. Yao Ming. Took the pic with my right eye camera implant. Unfortunately, as you will recall, my right eyeglass lens was missing and that threw it out of focus. Honest. No, really. I'm telling the truth. I swear on the Candacian Hammer Of Death! uh-oh........)

I waited on Dr. Jay many years ago. An exciting claim to fame.

Merry Christmas, Gawpo and many good wishes for a happy and healthy New Year.

Gnibilicious: That is so cool. Before he became governor, I waited on then State Senator John Kitzhaber. Circa 1984.I had no idea who he was, but he left a killer gratuity and his business card: "John Kitzhaber, M.D. State Senate." He wasn't a Jay, but he was a doctor. Does that count? MERRY CHRISTMAS, GOLDENNIB!!!

I've photographed a lot of sports over the years, but nothing's more daunting than basketball. Tall and fast. You'll be shooting a rebound at the far end of the court, and a few strides and a two or three seconds later you're looking through the viewfinder at a jersey number and adam's apple.

I thought it was a Hammer of Doom?
Don't worry though, I don't think the hammer can get all the way down to reach you, it's adjusted for a tall chick.
:p

Word Lover: Doom. Death. It all adds up to the same thing. Good catch, though. Ha! Now I'm awake. I see you are, too.

The first basketball game I ever saw was the Globetrotters (we were a tennis family)for one shining afternoon I thought I could be a player...then I remembered I was 5' tall and a girl. Tragic.

My only other brush with celebraty was in college when I had a class with Epstein's brother (from Welcome Back Cotter.) Epstein visited once by stopping by the college's Rat.

Logo: Yes!!! I am going to chant that each and every time I march into a job interview (if I ever need to again), a job related scuffle, heck, a new Target store. It's great. I SWEAR BY THE TWIN CANDACIAN HAMMERS OF DOOM AND DEATH!!!

Kat: I see that you too are safe from any harmful hammers. As Logophile points out, they are adjusted for a tall chick, not you and me. Whew...

Goldennib: I just remembered that my mom and I saw Carl Malden on a street corner in San Francisco once. We were all waiting to cross at the light together. They were filming Streets Of San Francisco in that era. He saw us see him. But we were polite and talked about it later.

Were you trained in the Dark Arts by the master himself? I hear there can be only two, a Master and his Apprentice.

Ok, so I'm very late commenting on this, but oh my gosh, did this make me laugh out loud! Having grown up in Newport and Toledo I knew exactly what you meant! lol And that is too cool about seeing the Globe Trotters play ... I saw them in Portland many years ago and it was very fun.

Brookie!: Yayyy. You made it way back here, even. Cool. Sove Airy cool (i just made that up! yee-haw).

Glad you could get a yuk outta that. Funny who that applies to. Your sister is always saying, "Oh, them? Yeah, I grew up with them" when I tell her who just came to jail. Ha!!!!

Wow. You got in on the trot? Nice. We must tawk.

Gawpo - I totally believe Cindra saying that. Our next door neighbor from Toledo is in jail... has been most of his adult life, as far as I know. What else is there to do in Toledo besides break the law or log or fish?

Brooke: I can maybe guess, but there are so many who might have been your neighbors. There is Juniper's ex's current wife's brother (you dig? you follow?). I think it was his fourth DUII that got him doing quite a chunk of time. She called me at work tonight and while I was on the phone with her, I got asked over the radio when "_____" came in. Cindra recognized his name. Then she asked about his sister (I think sister???) and I brought her up in our database and she was last there in December for a DUII/crash where she injured someone, so she got Assault IV tacked on, too. She didn't look good in her picture. At all. Very skinny.

Ok, there are times I truly don't miss living in Newport... and one of those times is when I hear stories like that... yanno? And yes I did follow the Juni's-ex's-current-wife's-brother thing... lol

Isn't this fun, Brookie? We have our own little chat room right here and no one even knows about it. Tee hee....

lol... yes, our own private chat room no one knows about 'cause no one but me is reading these older posts right now... Seeing the trotters live was awesome. It was in Portland and they all seemed *really* tall! lol
