Hey Man, Now You're Really Livin'

This is about "The Whole Thing." You know----life. Whether it feels good or hurts, it's "The Whole Thing." And when you take it as it comes, you come to take it for what it is---"The Whole Thing." To be really living is to embrace and to let go. Although I'm not going to post "Turn, Turn, Turn," the Old Testament had it right: To everything, there is a season. Seasons of laughter, seasons of tears; seasons of confidences, seasons of fears. It's all about really living. Right?

I love The Eels. Prior to her telling, I had never heard of them, but thanks to Cheen-druh! my life is once again enriched. This first video is actually Mr. E himself in what appears to be his rather humble digs, filming himself and singing along with himself because, as he explains, the group spent all their money producing their album. Can anyone tell if he is the one who posted it to You Tube? I think there are a few postings and I just happened to grab this one. The author is listed as: "Officialeels" and when you click on the link, it takes you right to their other You Tube videos. You are going to love his dogggie. The whole thing is simply heartwarming; the video, the lyrics, the whole thing.

For Cindra, who played this song for me over the cell phone last year.

For Blue

For Joe

For Logo

For me

For all of us here....that we may really live; this is my prayer:

This second one is moi, trying my level best to do another Eels song that I just love. Ladies and gentlepersons, Railroad Man...

******This Just In*******

I just got back from a visit to Blue's Blog. And I just can't believe what she has posted there. Okay, I really CAN believe it, but wow. When you go there you will see what I am talking about. Because of what I just read there, I am coming back to this post and am adding a second song that I just posted to You Tube this evening, but which I really didn't think to add here tonight. The lyrics speak for themselves. And for Blue. And for me. And for all of us. Melancholy, I think, is when you shake up the Etch-O-Sketch of life and start turning the knobs all over again.

Here is "Things The Grandchildren Should Know":

P.S. Mr. Gawpo, Sr is not dead. He is alive and well and cooking eggplant. But the line in the song reminds me of the inevitable. Right now though, man, he's really living.

"Things The Grandchildren Should Know"

I go to bed real early
Everybody thinks it's strange
I get up early in the morning
No matter how disappointed i was
With the day before
It feels new

I don't leave the house much
I don't like being around people
Makes me nervous and weird
I don't like going to shows either
It's better for me to stay home
Some might think it means i hate people
But that's not quite right

I do some stupid things
But my heart's in the right place
And this i know

I got a dog
I take him for a walk
And all the people like to say hello
I'm used to staring down at the sidewalk cracks
I'm learning how to say hello
Without too much trouble

I'm turning out just like my father
Though i swore i never would
Now i can say that i have a love for him
I never really understood
What it must have been like for him
Living inside his head

I feel like he's here with me now
Even though he's dead

It's not all good and it's not all bad
Don't believe everything you read
I'm the only one who knows what it's like
So i though i'd better tell you
Before i leave

So in the end i'd like to say
That i'm a very thankful man
I tried to make the most of my situations
And enjoy what i had
I knew true love and i knew passion
And the difference between the two
And i had some regrets
But if i had to do it all again
Well, it's something i'd like to do

I agree with ps...a big hug for Gawpo Sr. and Jr.
Well, there are NO coincidences, I believe.
These Eels songs are great. I have never heard of them. The dog in the vid is after my heart!
You are right about your etch-a-sketch analogy. I think sometimes we need to start fresh. Clean slate.
That is what spring is for, and it always dredges up these feelings right before the summer sun bursts through.
It is like scraping down the sides of the pool, it looks dirtier but really it is part of the cleaning process. Ya know?
Gawpo, thanks for posting these awesome tributes to living. You being one of them.
xo

Ps: Yes, you caught that. The part about Rhonda. I had a dream about her two nights ago. I miss her. As you can tell by my use of present tense in the song, she is doing fine. Thank you for your sweet words.

LIMERS!: I also love that pick. I tried to send ARM a little instructional video since she's a picker. And isn't Mr. E of the Eels just too sweet? And what a song.

Christos Anisti! (on Sunday) to you, too.

BLUE TSG: What I didn't say was that the verse about the father does apply, but not the last line. I am so lucky to have had him long enough to deepen the love. The pool gets some slime, but the walls remain cleanly sturdy and there; they will always hold the pool. That's what they're for, those walls, dirty or clean. To life! xo

My slug-powered internet isn't going to let me watch your videos today. I'll have to see if things improve tomorrow. Sorry I haven't been by much; somehow I never made it over here last week.

Anyway, I must now shamelessly invite you to come play in my caption contest again!

CLAIRE: Here's to friends sharing lonely Fridays together. Here's to all dogs and ones who were named Rhonda. Here's to now we're really livin'.

LIMERS: I don't think I could do Mama Cass justice, but I will definitely go see what I can do with it.

I've heard of Green Day. Now there's a third one? Sheesh. I haven't played April Come She Will in a guhzillion years or For Emily Wherever I May Find Her or Duncan. Hmmmmm.....

VICCI: Today was indeed a very growth-filled day. Thanks for wishing it, Vic. Aren't those songs great? Glad you liked "that little face" at the end. I'll have to go back and see what it was.

The mailman sucks. They close at 4:30 and TWICE I just barely missed it. I have a yellow slip in my box which means I have a package, but now I can't try again until next Wednesday. Dang. The anticipation builds. I like knowing the goods are there!

DIESEL: Funny you should pop in. Today I got to drive the "other" Corvallis airport's courtesy car, a red Hummer that burned diesel. I thought of you, of course. Are you on dial up like Mr. Gawpo, Sr? He lives a bit rurally, much like I imagine you do with those orchards all around you. I have been really out of the blogging loop too. Pay it no mind.

I shamelessly accept! See you there. Can't wait to have some fun, mostly by just reading the other submissions.

KAT: Much of this was for you, dear heart. I cleave to a similar process these days. Not so severe are yours, though. Sigh...

ARM: Awwwww, blush. Thank you. Load up Mr. Arm and make a trek out west so I can teach it to you in person. Then we'll the three of us go out on the bay and catch some crab. And if you don't like crab, there are lots of wonderful eateries to spoil you two with.

Hi Mr Gawpo, melacholy has been the 'soup du jour' all week at my house. Hence the philosophy from my wise child. I am coming out of it, everything that has been said and sung here rings true. As I commented on an other friends blog earlier..
I constantly have to remind myself lately, not to grieve for what might have been, but to thankful for what was (and is).
Love those cheeks..
Happy Easter..xx

SHEILA: I have made it my life's work to cultivate gratitude. Eucharist, it turns out, simply means "Thank You."

Something wonderful always happens after melancholy. If I don't try to chase it away, that is. You, your wise daughter and I must be cycling together on that score, it seems.

You may pinch my cheeks at any time and in any manner. They are yours.

Seranade us, po. The fire is ablaze and our marshmallows are toasting.

Brother E. is on it - holy luck breaks up, breaks down, breaks east and west. That's where our stories come from. Our Tulums and Susanvilles and all the other people and places we're from. And the telling, which you do so wisely and so well dear po, that gathers us in.

QUILLY: Walk on, Sister! You are ever so very welcome.

LIMERS: Yes, we know Jack and we love Jack. He has a thing for Reggae. I'm a big Toots fan.

En Alguien Lugar Jose: Simone Weil talks about the beauty of the sea when it is dangerously kicked up by a storm. It's like that. And then there's the couple who row out into the ocean and fish the nearby reefs in their 12 foot kyack on the days the ocean is beautiful and friendly. It's all too beautiful...

Over bridge of sighs
To rest my eyes in shades of green
Under dreamin' spires
To Itchycoo Park, that's where I've been

What did you do there?
I got high
What did you feel there?
Well I cried
But why the tears there?
I'll tell you why
It's all too beautiful
It's all too beautiful
It's all too beautiful
It's all too beautiful...

Gawpo -- I haven't been around much because OC is visiting me. We have climbedf all over Red Rock Canyon, and done many other interesting things, one of which might even startle you. It's pictured at my place, and you've missed an installment of Rumble's and Quilly's War.

I have started I don't know how many times to comment to this post. Nothing that I typed said what I wanted it to say. So instead of trying so hard to come up with a paragraph...I will say what I essentially wanted to say all along....THANK YOU for this post.
Melancholia, sadness, general lackluster seems to be a prevailing sentiment in blog land. I awoke this morning in hopes to shake up the etch-a-sketch!
XOXO

Happy Easter, Gawpo. It was nice getting a chance to talk to you for a few minutes. And thank you for these songs. What a nice feeling you've given me. I'd never heard of the Eels - don't stray far from my country music - but now I want more! Love this type lyrics. Love living, too. Your post is so right on. I work daily, on maintaining an 'attitude of gratitude' - and it works. I wouldn't have missed any of my life, not the ups or the downs, the joy or the pain. I've been 'livin' - and it's been a trip! BTW, your voice is lovely. (Hope you've recovered from my birthday rendition).

LISAOCEANDREAMUH: Boy, do I ever know how that goes. Sometimes you just want the watching and reading be what you say. And it is. "Thank you" works for me. I am touched. Thank you back, sistuh! I am so glad I met you!!!

JACKIE: And a Happy Easter to you. I finally got my off key birthday song, but it wasn't nearly as off key as I had hoped. You are too good. Work on degrading, if you can. LOL! But I loved talking to you, Jackie. Hope your visit was a good one with Chikken and the grandbaby who named me Gawpo.

MINDY: Do you know what you are? Well, DO YOU??? Very, very sweet. You've brightened mine. Twice. Wink. Now get back there and cook up some more great posts. That's an order(ly request).
