White Room
Have you ever really considered the lyrics of Cream's "White Room?"

In the white room with black curtains near the station.
Blackroof country, no gold pavements, tired starlings.
Silver horses ran down moonbeams in your dark eyes.
Dawnlight smiles on you leaving, my contentment.
I'll wait in this place where the sun never shines;
Wait in this place where the shadows run from themselves.
You said no strings could secure you at the station.
Platform ticket, restless diesels, goodbye windows.
I walked into such a sad time at the station.
As I walked out, felt my own need just beginning.
I'll wait in the queue when the trains come back;
Lie with you where the shadows run from themselves.
At the party she was kindness in the hard crowd.
Consolation for the old wound now forgotten.
Yellow tigers crouched in jungles in her dark eyes.
She's just dressing, goodbye windows, tired starlings.
I'll sleep in this place with the lonely crowd;
Lie in the dark where the shadows run from themselves.

This is over 5 1/2 minutes long. But Mr. Clapton (with whom I share a birthday, by the way) can still belt it out.
Somewhere Joe talked about trembling shadows. THESE puppies actually run from themselves, chasing along the way no doubt, all those tired starlings.

Bread, Cream - do they ever jam together?
Look out starlings! Now I'm running!
Candace--Crap! That was good, Sistuh. All I have to say is this: If they did jam together, the promoter would have to sandwich them in appropriately.
Cheen-druh--Yes, and with black curtains. 2654 any time....I was, uh, indisposed when you called.
I should pay closer attention to music lyrics.
Egan--Even as those lyrics are, the song still give me shpilkes in my geneckteckessoink. Hope your sky is as blue as ours today. Amazing day.
Good grief, when did my band get so old?...Ugh...I love this song, but never paid attention to the lyrics. Some bad old days recorded here.
Kattinski Pooh---I could never get past the first line from memory, and that's when I looked it up. Coly How! But what a sound.
The song always blew me away and still does. The lyric is superb. But the quirky descending contour of the verse's melody is what the word hook was invented to describe. Works every time I hear it.
Joe---Sitting here with my blank stare, mouth agape, and hooked to that pinpoint assessment, I say whoa dude, that is sofa king true. It pounds out the place, and then it lilts into what is happening there. Nice view. I'm takin' dat........to-da-bank.
"sofa king true" LOL, takin dat to my werd bank.

Hi I am new here, found you through Joe.
White Room in laymans terms is a really great song.
Don't care why. Don't care how. Yes, lyrically it rocks.
Cheers Gawpo!
My mom loves that song!
Joe---We have the same bank. Great tellers there.
Blue Spa Girl---Welcome! And cheers back atcha. Don't you just love how language (songs and all) connect us to a same experience? Makes us all brothers and sisters. I love that.
Snavy---Are you trying to set me up with your mom? I'm free next Tuesday.

Right on brotha.
But seriously, Gawpo...White Room was in my head all freakin day after this post.
I was singin away doing the laundry and my seven year old says, "What kind of song is that?"
Sigh.
Blue T.S.G.---I guess you grab him by the wrist and start spinning him cuz it's a DANCIN' song! Better that song than, say, Please Come To Boston. Dang! Now that one is gonna get stuck in my head. Sorry.....
I was 12 when I first heard this song. And it is one of my all time favorites.
Arm---I was 14 when the song came out. Three years older and I might have had to go play in Southeast Asia. Dodged that bullet in '72 by drawing high numbers in the draft lottery. Whew! This song is about better times.
Gawpo - I'm ashamed to admit this is my first visit here. I'm glad I did, because otherwise I'd never have found out about the "restless diesels." I thought I was the only one.
Check out the lyrics to B.O.C.'s Godzilla sometime, if you want a laugh.
Diesel---Ha!!!!
Rinji news o moshiagemasu!
Godzilla ga ginza hoomen e mukatte imasu! Daishkyu hinan shite kudasai!
That is hilarial. That last sentence is fun to say.
"white room" is some f**king excellent poetry. (imho)
Catnapping: Whoa, dude! I just saw you here. I neglected to check. I totally dig your site and will head on over. It was looking like maybe you got busy and weren't able to check in for a while. I wondered if you had email as well. I love this song!!!!
