Flight Scrapbook

Departing Toledo State (5S4) always offers up a treat off the right window heading south. Our beautiful Yaquina (yuh-KWIN-uh) Bay and Bridge. But those aren't in this picture. I didn't start snapping with the 5.1 megapixel HP 707R until a couple minutes after departure. The next estuary to the south is Alsea Bay and the city of Waldport.

Modern marvel, the GPS. In the right half of the display, information includes speed over ground (configured in statute miles, cuz I want to see what my car's speedometer would be saying if I could travel at that speed), distance from the destination, how much time before I get there, and how far off to the right or left of course I am. That last one is called the crosstrack. As depicted, the distance is 260 miles (statute, not nautical), and speed is 165 mph. Yeah, baby. That's what I'm talkin' 'bout. Do ya feel that, traffic on the ground? Huh! Do ya! DO YA FEEL THAT!!! (sorry, gawpo got excited there for a sec....i'm okay now.)

The Three Sisters, dormant, but not forgotten.....

It hasta be Shasta. At 14,179, 14,162, 14,411, or even 14,440 ft, it is second highest in the Cascade range. Seattle gets to look at the tallest. At 7,500 feet (my cruising altitude), I got to look at this one from just south of Eugene until my destination in Redding. Awesome mountain.

Remember how Pee Wee felt about his bike? And how he would greet it with that sqeaky, "Gooood Moorrrning"? Well, it's kinda like that.....

My Dad would be right there with ya Gawpo! He learned to fly when I was a teenager, and was always scaring us half to death in those little planes. Lake Shasta was one of my stomping grounds as a kid, we used to water ski there.

Beautiful plane! And the pictures are terrific, Gawpo. Nice to see them from that view - since it's a view I'll never have in person!

Good example of how to pronounce Yaquina, too. Now help me out with Alsea....I have this running thing going with my brother who lives in Waldport....he swears it's "all-sea", and after living in Newport for 17 years, I say it's "al sea", what do YOU say???

P.S. Ask Cindra if there is a way to change your blog so that someone other than a blogspot user can comment.

Kat---I try to not scare my passengers. And myself, never. My grandparents hung out at Whiskeytown Reservoir. Know where that one is? I love the view of Shasta Lake, from I-5 and from the air. So blue.

Comment Deleted---So great to not see you again!

Cheen-Druh!---Yeah, well I figured since Logo posted HER red hottie, I might just as well do the same. If we get a good weather day next month, we are SO gonna be in Bend, girlfren. Did you check out Logo's tongue! Whoa, dude. That thing's got some surface area!

Blue T.S.G.---Yes! Get that butt down to the local Canadian airport and hang out there. When the chillens are all growed up and supporting you, get some lessons under your belt.

Jackie---An admirer from a distance. It's all good. Now here's the skinny on Alsea. Only the people who do things like lengthen the "I" on Italian pronounce it "all-see." Everyone knows it's pronounced "al-see," as in Uncle Al the kiddie's pal. BUT, I have heard people place the emphasis on the first syllable when referring to the town of ALsea as opposed to the river of the same name. Further study is warranted. What say you and I fly into their town and do some interviewing?

I didn't know people who don't have blogspot can't comment here. CINDRAAAA!!!!! HEELLLPPPP!!!!!!

Snavy---I just love the speed and the view and the lack of other traffic. Going over to your blog now to see if you got your stuff back. Fingers crossed 4U.

GPS is pretty fabulous, we like to go geocaching so we got one for that but for flying, oh yeah, that would definitely be a bonus.
I love your red hot hottie.
Make ya deal, iffen you take me for a ride on yours, I'll take you for a ride on mine, deal?

Gawpo-Okay, the comment thingy is fixed. Quit hitting on my mom...well, you can try, but she doesn't get in planes so you can't take her to ALsea or to EYEtaly either. Yes, I saw Logo's tongue. She keeps flirting with me. She's such a little vixen. Bend in February. Don't forget to send me your updated schedule. And...lastly...where is my diamond, baby?

Joe---Letter to my mother: "Dear Ma, Hi. It's me, your favorite son. Okay, old joke. Your ONLY son. Guess what, Ma. I'm someone's hero. His name is Joe. He is somewhere. Hope you and dad are doing well. Love, Gawpo p.s. Why did you name me that?"

Logo---You know how to get straight to my heart: Gong, Gong Alo. You speaka my language. And yes, our respective asses on our respective red hotties: It's a DEAL!!!

Cheen-Druh!---When a daughter tells me to quit hitting on their mom, I pay attention. I obey. I comply. Like this one time when that family of four was walking out of the theater, and the 9 year old girl told me the same, I was all like, "Hey, no pablam, I can take a hint," and I dropped the pursuit of what could have been a wonderful relationship with the girl's mother. Will send shedjual chewmorrow. I'm having the diamond cut into noserings for you and CL. Thanks for fixing this comment thang. Peace. Out.

Egan--She really gets irritated with me when I do that, especially when it's a t-shirt she is wearing at the time. It's not my fault she never wears a bra.
